Hey famalay, how y’all doing? It’s Ola here, the founder of My Afro Caribbean Wedding and My Precious World. It’s been such a long time I’ve graced our blog but there’s loads of time on my hands at the moment while our blog writers in the house are on holidays prepping to devour the Christmas chicken dinner on the 25th. However, our blog writers Dr. Onye and Virtuous have been doing great. Go check out their write ups on My Precious World blog. It’s December and I am so catching the Christmas feelings of celebrating true love, family love and God’s blessings. Talking about blessings, we came across these beautiful couple’s (Adetumi and Lulu) proposal and could not wait to share their love story curated by the romantic Adetunmi aka @oba_saxy. Hmm, what’s with the IG name Mr. Adetunmi? Let’s chat about this some other time. 🙂
Ade proposed to his beautiful Italian Nigerian queen Lulu who bagged a FIRST CLASS in her Nursing degree. Like who does that, first class in Nursing? That’s another level of brain, girl. Hands up, bows and respect no lie. Ade got himself a brainy wifey to be, lucky Ade. Here’s their beautiful love story and proposal.
How we Met
They say it’s not how you begin the journey it’s how you complete it. This journey also had an intriguing beginning. In 2012, liking and commenting on her insta posts before insta was big, before Insta DMs existed 😭, asking her for her Kik instead. I remember calling her my black beauty, ma belle. Those were my cheeky days when I was eating chicken Adobo (erm what’s Chicken Adobo? Ola asking for a friend). If you know what I mean 😭 I was so daring I kept her DP as my WhatsApp picture while I was in my dead relationship. Somehow we lost contact. I’m sure it’s because she knew I had a girlfriend then and she didn’t want to come between us. Moreover she lived in Italy and I live in London.
I went through series of fruitless relationships. I had to take a step back and pray to God. These are the words I said.
“Lord, I cannot with these girls today. Can you steer me to a woman that will love me unconditionally, a strong, beautiful and intelligent woman, a woman that loves to travel, a woman that loves family. Then with a bit of cheek said can you compile this together and make her Nigerian also. 😭”
Somehow I knew I had already come across the person that I was supposed to get married to. The next thing I heard from her was “I’m in Manchester”, from Italy to Manchester? I remember that day. I couldn’t stop smiling.
Our first linkup didn’t happen, well that was anti climatic. The next year she said we should meet up and I couldn’t waste that chance. We met, we saw, we connected. We suddenly found ourselves in Paris all alone. It truly is the city of love and passion. I asked her to be mine, she said yes then she said no. 😭😭😭 Probably had to think about it because she didn’t want to be messed about with. She finally said yes to date me. I thought that day was the happiest day ever. Months went by, we had travelled to France, Italy, Nigeria, Belgium and Greece (can I tag along on your next trip, you guys cover the tickets I cover the surreal holiday photography, Ola asking for myself). All throughout having the best times and even some difficult times but we always felt the love.
Adetumi and Lulu’s Proposal – How He Asked
While ‘holidaying’ in Santorini Greece, I had it all planned. I snucked the engagement ring on videos I captured while she fell asleep on our journey to Greece. She had no idea what was coming. I eventually proposed with the perfect scenery of the beautiful Santorini. Her saying yes? That? That was the happiest moment of my life. I love her so much and can’t wait to continue building with her. My black beauty, my belle, my Oluwalulu 😭, it’s us against the world. Her parents raised her as a royalty, I can gladly say I’ve met my Queen. Watch the proposal video here.
