It’s officially proposal season. Today is all about Afro Caribbean couple, Lateefat and Jonathan proposal in Brooklyn. Bride-to-be Lateefat Lawal is Nigerian while Groom-to-be Jonathan Sanon is Haitian. They met over four years ago on Snapchat. Two years later, they decided to officially start dating. For Lateefat, it was a supposed fraternity party turned proposal. She walked into a room decorated with flower bouquets, a candlelit rose path, and was surrounded by her family and friends. They had a proposal party which was fun and beautifully planned.

How We Met

Here’s how Lateefat recalls their love story:

Ya Allah, Alhamdulillah. Our journey started over four years ago. When I saw this handsome man on someone's Snapchat, I definitely had to ask “who is that?”. By the time I woke up the next day, Jonathan already added me on Snapchat. The conversations started and we instantly connected when we decided to go on our first date. Unfortunately, shortly after we decided to only be friends and nothing more.

Fast forward to two years later - won’t God do it? We decided to give the dating thing another try. A lot happened in those two years when we decided to be friends. We told each other everything. We gave each other a life update. We were also both recently single.

Long story short, Jonathan has always and will always remain an amazing person. He loves me and everything about me. This has been the easiest YES I’ve ever said. Once you know you know. Jonathan knew because he prayed to God for this. We both thank God every day for each other and our family and friends. Jonathan loves and adores Imaan just as Imaan loves Jonathan. Ya Allah thank you, thank you, thank you. Eyin Temi, we have a wedding to plan. Aso ebi loading, but first of all introduction.

How He Proposed

It was a surprise event in Brooklyn. She thought it was a party for a fraternity (Alpha Phi Alpha).

Jonathan posted on instagram, a slide show of their proposal pictures and video which were captured by Vdot Photography. He captioned these pictures and video with a sweet message to his fiancée:

“I feel like I’ve known you my whole life. 12 Days into being a fiancé, a lifetime to go for this beautiful journey we’re on.”
