How The 🇬🇾 Guyanese Couple Met

We were first introduced to each other by our Maid of Honor after a party in Brooklyn, NY on Christmas Eve back in 2010. We, along with a couple others, ended up going to a diner for breakfast.

When we finished our food, he asked me for my BBM pin. I remember making a stink face when he asked. He then responded to me and said, “Relax! I’m not trying to bag you. People exchange pins all the time!” I will never forget his words still to this day, ESPECIALLY because we’re getting ready to become husband and wife. Despite what he said, every now and again he would express his interest in me and ask me out on a date. I would come up with a million and one excuses just to say no!

Over the next year and a half, we became really good friends. We grew to talk on the phone every single day, told each other everything about our lives from the past to our current day to day. We literally became besties and kept it to ourselves. At the time, I had no idea we were in the middle of building a strong foundation for what would be a future marriage, but I guess he always did.

He shot his shot one last, good time, and I just decided to finally give in! Almost 9 years later, here we are, a girl from The Bronx and a guy from Brooklyn, who moved to the DMV, have kids, engaged and getting ready to spend the rest of our lives together as husband and wife!

The Heart-Warming Surprise Proposal

When you played out so many different scenarios, perfect timing & events as to when he would propose, but he ends up tripping you up by randomly staying back with the kids in Maryland, while you went up to NY for an errand and to have dinner with your mom and sister.

I face-timed the kids after 7pm and they were still in our house in Maryland and by 11pm in Manhattan, he surprises me already bending on one knee with our sons and his mom to propose to me. Having the kids and our moms there on a random weekend in October was way more special & meaningful than the ways I had it planned out in my head. Talk about caught off Guard.
