Today is all about our beautiful Ghanaian-American couple, Sequince and Bryan proving to us that love is absolutely beautiful. The gorgeous Black American, Dr. Sequince Sackey, and her Ghanaian beau, Dr. Bryan Sackey tied the knot in an intimate “quarantine style” micro-wedding ceremony. #DoubleDoseOfSackey was a celebration of two different cultures. Having a Ghanaian traditional as well as a Western (American) ceremony is a big deal.

About 7 years ago, Sequince and Bryan met at a pharmacy conference as students. Although, their initial introduction was very short and cordial. Fast forward to 5 years later, they met at another pharmacy conference but this time as practitioners, and this was the beginning of their beautiful black love story. Their proposal story was equally so beautiful. Bryan popped the question at a very romantic candle lit dinner followed by a surprise engagement party in Houston. Just so you know, Houston was the city they first said “I Love You”, making it extra romantic and thoughtful. Kudos to you Bryan!

How We Met
We met back in 2013 at a pharmacy conference as students. I was attending The Hampton University and he was in pharmacy school at Howard (the other HU). The initial introduction was very short and cordial. A group of friends meeting another group of friends. We followed each other’s social media pages and that was it.
5 years later, we are both attending another pharmacy conference but this time as practitioners. He was one of the guest speakers and I was on the organization’s committee that actually booked him. I sat in his presentation and kept thinking about how handsome he looked, how well dressed he was, and how eloquently he expressed himself. We chatted afterwards and caught up, no longer pharmacy students, but now as mature adults with some life experiences under our belts. He mentioned that he was currently in San Antonio, Texas. I laughed because I had just been commissioned into the Air Force and was stationed there a few weeks prior. Numbers were exchanged. Two weeks later we went on our first date in Texas, and the rest is history. #DoubleDoseOfSackey

Our Proposal Story
It was Valentine’s Day weekend 2020 and we decided to spend it in Houston. Houston was a special place for us because only a year prior, we’d first said “I Love You” in the same city followed by a very memorable weekend. Well, Bryan is not a fan of the cliché and decided not to propose on Valentine’s Day, which was a Friday so I definitely didn’t think anything was going to happen that weekend. We wrapped up a perfect weekend by going to dinner Sunday night. He said we would be going to an event his friend was throwing and I didn’t think anything of it. Instead, he popped the question at a very romantic candle lit dinner followed by a surprise engagement party where our close friends and family flew in for! It was so beautiful.

Our Wedding Story
We celebrated our nuptials by having two ceremonies, the Ghanaian traditional as well as the Western (American) ceremony. Saturday, we had the Ghanaian traditional at my family’s home in Huntsville, Alabama. Sunday, we exchanged vows in front of our close family and friends in an intimate “quarantine style” micro-wedding ceremony and brunch reception. Both days were absolutely perfect.
