Esther 🇩🇪 🇨🇩 and Gaety 🇳🇱 🇨🇩 Beautiful Destination Proposal in Portugal
We are starting the weekend with Esther and Gaety destination proposal and love story. Groom-to-be, Gaety is Dutch while bride-to-be Esther is German. They are both of Congo DRC descent. The beautiful Afro Caribbean couple met in 2015 while working at a fashion event. They started talking, it led to their friendship and eventually their relationship. 5 years after, they are ready to take their love to another level. For Esther, it was a supposed appreciation day turned proposal. She walked into a room decorated with pictures of them, a candlelit rose path, champagne, and some flower bouquets. It was so romantic and beautifully planned. The bride-to-be, Esther lets us in on how they met and their engagement proposal story. We met at the end of 2015 during a Fashion Event (Vibration Bruxelles). I was walking for an up and coming black designer and Gaety was doing promo and meeting people for an event he was organizing later in that year. The designer introduced me to Gaety because she thought I would be a good fit to do promo for Gaety and that was how we started talking.

Our Engagement Proposal Story
We were supposed to go to Afronation in July 2020 in Portugal. It got canceled, but we decided to still go to Portugal and just have a city trip/baecation. On the 18th July 2020, he organized an appreciation day for me because I finished my Master’s degree and didn’t have a proper celebration because of COVID-19. Or at least I thought it only was an appreciation day. He got 3 of my closest friends to send me videos just to send an appreciation message throughout the day while we were on our daily city tour. He pretended he got tired and that it was too hot for him to continue our visit, so we went back to our hotel to take a break.

We went to the restaurant and had an amazing private dining experience. At that point, I even thought he would propose. I thought my family would pop out somewhere. But he told me he wouldn't propose there or anything. So I thought "oh I can relax, nothing is going to happen here" and I even took off my shoes. But shortly after, he convinced me to put my shoes back on to take pictures outside. So after the restaurant, we went back to the hotel, he got me to enter the hotel room by myself and there it was: THE surprise.
The room was decorated with pictures of us, a candlelit rose path, champagne, and some flower bouquets. I had different steps to take before he would come back. The first one was for me to call our families on Zoom. The second step was for me to read Gaety's appreciation letter. When I finished reading the letter Gaety joined me, got down on one knee, and proposed.
